Inclement Weather Information

For the 2023-2024 school year, the first three inclement weather days will be traditional snow days and no virtual learning or alternate method of instruction (AMI) days will be required.  However, if we have more than three inclement weather days, the District may utilize AMl learning so days are not added to the end of the school year.  When notifications are posted, we will indicate if school is closed or if AMI learning will occur.
Social media and electronic communications are often the best options for our parents, students, and employees to receive information.  In particular, when emergency communication, such as school closings or safety alerts are necessary, social media is more timely and effective than our automated phone call system.  
 
Our school district will utilize the following communication methods this year.

  • News Media
    GC-4 will be listed on all major TV stations in the event of an emergency-related closure.
  • Website
    www.grandviewc4.net
  • Phone
    Families and staff will receive an automated phone message
  • Text Messaging
    Families and staff will receive a text unless they have opted out
 
Please keep in mind that when canceling school for weather-related reasons, the District will post notifications in the order noted above.  In other situations, the District may use all or only some of the communications methods, based on the event which has occurred.

The Superintendent of Schools makes the final weather-related decisions based on several factors, including student safety, bus transportation, road conditions, and wind chill temperature.  The decision to close school is often difficult and weather events can occur at any time.  If a decision cannot be made the night before,  the District will typically decide between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. the next morning.

  1. Log in to the Parent Portal.
  2. Verify the accurate numbers are listed for phone numbers. These should be the numbers you want to be called by our staff and automated system.
  3. Check all of your other information while you are in SIS Portal and confirm that it is accurate as well.
