Multi-Tiered Support

What is a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)?

At Grandview C-4, we are committed to helping every student succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. One way we do this is through a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

MTSS is a framework we use to identify and support the needs of all students. It’s like a safety net that ensures every child gets the help they need when they need it.

Just like some students need extra support, others may need extra challenges to stay engaged and grow. We provide enrichment opportunities through classroom instruction, advanced coursework, and specialized programs—so every child is learning at their level and being inspired to reach their full potential.

Here's how it works:

Tier 1: Support for All Students
    • All students receive high-quality instruction in the classroom. Teachers use proven strategies to help every child learn.
    • We regularly check how students are doing through assessments and classroom observations.

Tier 2: Extra Support/Enrichment for Some Students
    • If a student needs a little more help, we provide targeted support in small groups. This could be in reading, math, behavior, or social-emotional skills.
    • Student enrichment at this level looks like providing opportunities for extending their learning beyond grade-level expectations.
    • These supports happen in addition to regular classroom instruction.

Tier 3: Intensive Support for a Few Students or Individualized Enrichment
  • Some students may need more individualized help. Tier 3 provides more frequent or intensive support based on a student’s unique needs.
  • Student enrichment at this level follows the district's gifted identification process or student acceleration process
  • These supports happen in addition to regular classroom instruction.
Why MTSS Matters
  • MTSS helps us catch challenges early so students don’t fall behind.
  • It ensures every child—regardless of background, learning style, or needs—has a chance to thrive.
  • Families are important partners in this process. We keep parents informed and involved every step of the way.
