Student MacBooks

The Board approved entering into a four year lease/purchase agreement with Apple, Inc. to replace MacBooks for high school students.  The district implemented a 1:1 initiative (one digital device per student) at Grandview High School five years ago.  The lease/purchase allows the district to provide the students with up-to date technology.

Program Evaluations

Wellness Program – each school has a school health advisory council that assesses wellness needs for students and staff.  The district was awarded a grant from the State Health Department and the CDC which has been used to purchase items to improve wellness such as water bottle filling stations and PE equipment.  The District collaborates with a number of community partners to promote wellness.

Health Services – three nurses and nine health paraprofessionals serve Grandview C4 students.  This year there were 50,709 visits to the district’s health rooms; 47,652 were able to return to class to continue their education.  14,558 of the health room visits were for medications or other needs related to chronic health conditions such as diabetes or asthma.

Nutrition Services – the district contracts with Sodexo for food services programming. Over 500,000 lunches and 230,000 breakfasts are served to Grandview C4 students in a typical school year. 73% of elementary students, 68% of middle school students and 42% of high school students are eating school lunches.  Each year since 2008-09 Sodexo has exceeded their financial commitment to the district.

Facilities & Grounds – the maintenance department includes a director, administrative assistant and 7 technicians who are responsible for the maintenance of 1,788,272 square feet of buildings, 125 acres of land, 12 parking lots and 6 playgrounds.  Nearly 3000 work orders are completed annually.

Sale of Bonds

At the May meeting the Board approved a resolution to proceed with the notice of bond sale for $5,000,000 in General Obligation Bond.  Since then, the district received 5 bids for the purchase of the bonds.  The board approved awarding the bid to Stifel, Nicolaus and company.  The sale of the bonds generates funds for projects approved by voters at the April 4, 2017 election.

Preliminary Budget

The Board adopted a preliminary budget for the 2017-18 school year.  The proposed operating budget is approximately $54 million, similar to the 2016-17 budget.  The proposed budget for operating plus debt service and capital projects is approximately $62 million.
