Summer School Report

In 2016, the district offered intervention courses in math and reading, K-8 interdisciplinary enrichment opportunities, Gateway to Technology for middle school students, and Virtual Academy for high schoolers.  Enrollment was comparable to 2015.  Student survey data showed a high percentage of students indicating their teachers cared about them and helped them understand new learning.

Reading Inventory

The curriculum and instruction department assesses all second through twelfth grade students three times a year using the Reading Inventory Assessment.  This assessment provides schools and the district with a student’s Lexile score as the year progresses and is calibrated with grade level expectations. The information provided is used by schools and the C & I department to have a more precise view of a student’s reading abilities therefore more accurately provide them the supports they need to continue deepening their reading skills.

 Adoption of Tax Levy

The Board approved a tax levy rate of $5.0047 for general and teacher operating funds and $0.80 for debt service, for a total tax levy rate of $5.8047.

Three Year Budget Forecast

Based on current information, district reserves are estimated at 17.44% as of June 30, 2017. Two revenue adjustments are anticipated for future years - increases in property taxes due to modest increases as the economy improves, and increases in State Aid due to estimated increases in enrollment. Expenditure adjustments include funds to support increases in compensation, the corresponding increase in retirement costs and increases in the cost of benefits.  Reallocations will be necessary over the next three years to keep reserves above 15%.

Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) Review

Progress toward CSIP goals for the 2015-16 school year were reviewed.  Goals in the area of Governance, Facilities, Support and Instructional Resources, and Parent and Community involvement showed improvement over the 2014-15 year.  Performance measures for each CSIP goal over the past 3 years can be found under the eBOARDsolutions Planning tab.
