Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Update

An overview of the latest iteration Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6) was provided.  MSIP 6 is focused on continuous improvement for all schools, the preparation of each student for life beyond high school and promoting practices that lead to healthy school systems.  The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) believes high expectations, a clear vision and few very focused, high impact goals will be critical to drive the improvement efforts necessary to bring about positive results for Missouri schools. 

Adoption of Tax Levy 

The Board approved a tax levy rate of $4.9059 for General and Teacher (Combined) Operating Funds, and $1.05 for the Debt Service Fund, for a total Tax Levy Rate of $5.9559 for 2022, which is .0002 higher than last year’s tax rate.  A tax levy hearing was held prior to the regular open meeting. 

Strategic Plan Review

The Board reviewed outcomes from year 3 of the 2019-2024 Strategic Plan in five Focus Areas:  Strategic Governance, Student Success, Workforce Excellence, Resource Stewardship & Organizational Efficiency, and Family/Community Involvement. 

 Aspiring Principals Academy

Information on the development and implementation of the Aspiring Principals Academy was shared with the Board.  The Academy will serve as a way to grow aspiring building level leaders. It is a two-year commitment with monthly meetings outside the teacher work day.  The program is funded through a DESE teacher retention grant.

Energy Savings

In March 2020, the Board approved an agreement with Johnson Controls, Inc for development of energy savings performance contracts. Representatives from Johnson Controls updated the Board on project benefits and results, including cost avoidance/savings and rebates.
