Strategic Plan – 2019-2024

The Board approved a 5-year Strategic Plan around five Focus Areas: Strategic Governance, Student Success, Workforce Excellence, Resource Stewardship & Operational Efficiency and Family/Community Involvement.  Approximately 40 stakeholders which included parents, district staff members, community members and Board of Education representation, met in subgroups throughout the year to develop goals, objectives, and action steps for their respective Focus Areas.  The newly created Strategic Plan was developed with an emphasis on student achievement, cultural competency, and fully preparing students for post-secondary college and/or career success.

Curriculum and Instruction (C&I)

The Board heard a presentation on the restructuring of Career Pathways at GHS which will engage students in deeper, more authentic learning that leads to the attainment of Market Value Assets (MVA).  MVAs include earning college credit while in high school, obtaining an Industry Recognized Credential, participation in internships at local businesses and opportunities for scholarships to college or trade schools.  The district will also conducting a deep assessment of the K-12 math C&I and began a semester-long study of Rigorous Curriculum Design (RCD).  Every math standard was evaluated and aligned to assure a progression of skills mastery from kindergarten through high school.  New math resources; Eureka Math for elementary students, and Illustrative Math for secondary students, will be implemented for the 2019-20 school year.

Program Evaluations

The Board approved Program Evaluations for Wellness, Health Services, Nutrition and Facilities & Grounds.  Highlights included the district’s focus on trauma awareness, over 94% of the 41,150 visits to the health rooms this year resulted in students returning to the classroom to continue learning, more nutritious and greater selection of meal choices, and an expanded preventative maintenance program HVAC, life/safety, and kitchen equipment.  Details of the evaluations, including both strengths and concerns can be found at the June 20, 2019 BOE Meeting link above.

Sale of Bonds for Facilities Improvement

The Board approved awarding $4,000,000 in General Obligation Bonds for continued facilities improvement.  There were a total of seven bids for the purchase of the bonds.

Preliminary Budget 2019-20

The Board adopted a preliminary budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year which includes a proposed preliminary operating budget (funds 1, 2, 5, 6), debt service (fund 3), and capital projects (fund 4).  The preliminary budget for revenues and expenditures in all funds (1 thru 6) is $62,607,942 and $62,713,679 respectively.  Anticipated reserve funds at the end of the 2019-20 fiscal year fall within the Board goal of 18 +/- 2%.
