Instructional Purchase

In support of continued efforts to align and enhance the math curriculum, the Board approved the purchase of Illustrative Math, a problem-based core curriculum designed to address content and practice standards.  Students learn by solving problems in mathematical and real-world contexts.  Illustrative Math curriculum was implemented in all 6th grade classrooms this school year and with this purchase will be expanded to include 7th & 8th grade math, algebra and geometry.

Sale of Bonds

In 2017, voters approved the issuance of $9 million in General Obligation Bonds. The Board approved a notice of bond sale for the remaining $4 million to continue facilities improvements around the district.  The district will use a public, competitive sale process for the issuance of these bonds.

Mental Health Screenings

Last year the district entered into a partnership with Cornerstones of Care to provide semi-annual social/emotional health screenings for 3rd through 5th graders.  Next year the agreement will be expanded to include the lower elementary as well as middle school grades.  Parents complete consent forms for children to complete a 5 – 10 minute screening designed to identify and provide assistance for students scoring in elevated risk categories.

Meal Prices

The US Department of Agriculture provides a Paid Lunch Equity (PLE) tool to assist districts in calculating their paid lunch price increases needed to meet legal requirements. The Board approved a ten cent increase in all meal prices per the PLE to remain in compliance.

Jackson County Health Department POD

The Board approved the district entering into an agreement with the Jackson County Health Department to operate as a Point of Dispensing (POD).  A POD is a place that allows for mass distribution of emergency antibiotic or vaccine in the event of a community health emergency such as small pox.  The district would provide facilities and staffing and the Health Department would provide the training and medication.  The District has entered agreements in the past to be a POD as a convenience for our staff, students and their family members.
