Student Recognition

Band students and director Danny Watring were recognized for another outstanding season.

Program Evaluations

The Board reviewed and approved two program evaluations – English Language Learners (ELL), and Guidance & Counseling.

ELL - Teachers receive continuous training and professional development in collaboration with DESE and the Kansas City Regional Professional Development Center. Increasing number and severity of student needs was noted as a concern regarding the program.

Guidance & Counseling – Data review shows that majority of an elementary counselor’s time is allotted to addressing the immediate needs and concerns of students. In middles school, counselors begin to focus on individual planning activities that provide a framework for academic and career success. High school counselors focus most of their time to individual students for college or career planning.

2016-17 Salary Schedules

The Board approved increases to staff salary schedules for the 2016-17 school year with the goal of maintaining salaries in the upper third of area districts.

Budget Update

The Board received a budget update showing an estimated reserve balance at year end (June 30) to be within the desired goal of 18 plus or minus 2 percent, and an estimated surplus of approximately $628,000 which can be used to support expenditures in the coming school year.

Fire Alarm Systems Upgrades

The Board approved a contract with Capital Electric Construction Company for fire alarm upgrades at two district campuses.
