Cell Phone Policy

A new Missouri law goes into effect in August 2025, prohibiting the use of personal electronic devices during the school day. This includes all personal devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, earbuds, and other wearable technology.

In alignment with this law and to support focused learning environments, the Grandview C-4 School District will implement the following guidelines for all students in grades K–12:

Cell Phone & Device Use Guidelines

Effective: August 2025

During the school day, personal electronic devices:

  • May not be seen, heard, or used during any part of the school day.
  • Must be turned off and stored in lockers, backpacks, or designated areas.

This applies to all times, including:

  • Class periods
  • Hallway transitions
  • Lunch
  • Study halls
  • Breaks between classes
  • Extracurricular activities

District-issued devices used under teacher direction are not affected by this policy.

Exceptions to the Rule

Personal devices may only be used in the following situations:

  • Medical reasons, with prior notice from a parent/guardian or school nurse.
  • Instructional use, as authorized by a teacher.
  • Emergencies, at the discretion of administrators or designated staff, for safety purposes.

Family Communication

If you need to get a message to your child:

  • Non-urgent: Please call your child’s school office.
  • Emergencies: The school will assist with contacting students through district-approved methods.

Enforcement & Consequences

To ensure consistent enforcement, the following procedures will be followed:

  • 1st Violation: Student receives a warning and reminder of the policy.
  • 2nd Violation: Device is confiscated and held until the end of the school day; parents will be notified.
  • Additional Violations:
    • The device is held until the parent/guardian picks it up.
    • Possible disciplinary action according to the student code of conduct.
    • Chronic violations may result in more serious consequences.

Please note: The district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices.
