Meal Services

The district will provide meals to children daily, even if they are not physically in our school buildings on a particular day.

lunch trayIn-School Cafeteria Procedures
To avoid situations in which students are gathered in groups, we will adjust our typical breakfast and lunch room service schedule in each of our schools. Menus will be developed with food safety and reduction of contamination risks in mind. A designated flow of traffic will be identified. Signage will be available to identify space for 6 feet apart during meal pick up and seating in buildings where required. The school nutrition department will ensure all food service employees are adhering to personal protective equipment (PPE) policies that include the usage of disposable gloves and face masks.
Elementary Breakfast:
Designated entrances and exits will be identified. Students will be able to choose from a limited menu consisting of hot or cold breakfast options and return to their classrooms. School sites already participating in Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) will continue this alternative breakfast method. Breakfast in the Classroom procedures will allow the student to receive a hot or cold breakfast. Meals are delivered to the classroom.
Elementary Lunch:
Designated entrances and exits will be identified. Students will be able to choose from a limited menu, pick up their meals, and return to their classroom. Consider the increased staggering of lunch periods. Avoid and limit the mixing of students over multiple lunch periods.
Middle and High School Breakfast:
A limited menu of hot or cold breakfast will be available. Students will pick up their pre-packaged breakfast via Grab-&-Go. Students will be able to select their breakfast and sit in the cafeteria seating area while enforcing social distancing protocols for the first 10 minutes of breakfast. Once seating capacity has been met, students are encouraged to eat in their classrooms.
Middle and High School Lunch:
Designated entrances and exits will be identified. Students will be able to choose from a limited menu, pick up their meals, and return to their classroom.
sack lunchOut-of-School Meal Service
We have established a process to ensure all students receive meals on each weekday, even if they are not in our buildings.
Based on the students' A day or B day, the student will receive a second bagged cold meal that includes breakfast and lunch. These meals will be distributed at the end of the day as the students are dismissed in an orderly fashion.
Other Precautionary Measures
  • Ensure that students are served all items, including items such as milk, fresh fruits, ala carte rather than having students help themselves.
  • Utilize disposable condiments.
  • Additional menus will be developed to provide access to school meal programs for qualifying students who are impacted by COVID-19.
  • Procedures will be developed that allow an adult designated by the parent to pick-up meals for children who are absent due to illness or self-isolation.
  • Communicate clear mealtime expectations with students and staff.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of the cafeteria, tables, seating, and high touch surfaces throughout the day, specifically after meal preparation and meal service in the cafeteria.
  • Provide a separation barrier for cashiers for purposes of cashier point of service (POS) entry or scan ID card, eliminating touching number keypad. Consider a plexiglass barrier.
  • In order to limit exposure, outside meal deliveries will be prohibited.
  • Guests are not permitted to join their children for meals.
  • If a student brings their breakfast or lunch, all items need to be in disposable containers.
